How to design it? I have prepared a short guide for you. Check out where to start, how to plan it all, and how to neatly connect.
The bathroom must be arranged functionally. Everyday bathing, brushing your teeth, or performing other activities should not cause you any problems. The arrangement of all the equipment is crucial here, and it is worthwhile to think and plan it well for your convenience.
This will be helped by dividing the space into three zones – a bathing zone with a bathtub or shower, a washbasin zone, and a sanitary zone with a toilet and possibly a bidet. It is important not only to properly arrange the appliances in bathroom, but also to maintain the correct distances between them. It is good if they amount to 20 to 30 cm.
In the bathroom, in addition to comfort, aesthetics also matter. It is just as important and do not forget about it. Especially since nowadays, the bathroom is increasingly becoming our home spa, in the comfort of which we like to rest, relax or gather our thoughts by candlelight and quiet music. It is worth celebrating these moments in beautiful surroundings. So arrange and decorate your bathroom to make it a fully luxurious space. Above all, opt for good-quality materials with an interesting, attractive appearance. These include natural products such as stone, or wood. Marble, granite, or onyx are elegant, timeless, and very durable, so they will work perfectly in the bathroom. But you can just as well reach for tiles, which in black gloss look very elegant, and in white sensationally illuminate the space. In addition, a decorative mosaic with an unusual pattern or colorful wallpaper will look sensational on the wall. A bit of glamour in a luxurious bathroom will also come in handy. It will be provided with remarkable lighting and mirrors in decorative frames. Luxury and comfort in the bathroom is the perfect duo.
BATHTUB AND SHOWER, BATHTUB OR SHOWER
First of all, you must decide whether the bathroom will have a bathtub, a shower, or a bathtub and a shower. The most convenient solution is, of course, the last one, but it is not always possible to implement it. For a simple reason. Not all bathrooms are large enough to accommodate a bathtub and a shower. On the other hand, not everyone wants to have both a bathtub and a shower in the bathroom. You always consider your needs and habits. If you like long baths in fragrant foam then a bathtub is for you. If you prefer a quick shower then choose to install a shower enclosure.
Sometimes, however, your plans can be thwarted by the size of the room, its layout, or attic bevels. Owners of small bathrooms often have to reckon with limitations. This is because the bathtub will not always fit here, and then there is no choice – the only thing left is to choose a shower. Remember that you need much more space to set up a bathtub than to install a shower enclosure. In small bathrooms, a corner shower cabin will be a good solution.
In addition, consider abandoning the shower tray in favor of installing a drain on the floor, which will optically enlarge the interior. Also leave about 90 cm or so of free space in front of the shower enclosure, so that you can comfortably enter and then exit it.
If your bathroom has enough space then consider choosing a freestanding bathtub. It will additionally be a beautiful decoration in the interior. Another interesting option is the 2-in-1 set, that is, a bathtub with a shower screen. This is ideal for a family because each member of the household can take the kind of bath they want. The dimensions of bathtubs vary (standard 160-180 cm in length, 70-80 cm in width), so you need to match it to the size of the room and, of course, to your height. For more technical things – in front of the bathtub, a strip of free space of about 90×70 cm will be useful, while it is good if the edge of the bathtub will be at a height of 50-60 cm.
WASHBASIN ZONE
This is the place you will use most often in the bathroom whether doing your daily toilet, applying makeup, or washing your hands. It is also the focal point of the room and thus its showcase. In this zone, the most important is, of course, the washbasin. What model to choose? The choice you have is quite large.
You can opt for a sink recessed into the countertop, integrated into the countertop, or standing on the countertop. Of soft shapes or sharp lines. Round, square, or rectangular. Made of ceramic or other material such as wood, stone, or conglomerate. Moreover – the washbasin does not always have to be white. You can bet on a model in black, which looks very elegant, in bronze or gold. Which option you choose depends on your preferences and what will fit in with the rest of the furnishings. However, it is worth paying attention to less standard solutions. These certainly include a gold washbasin, which looks not only beautiful, but also original, so it will nicely highlight the showcase of your bathroom.
Remember that commercially available washbasins have a standard width of 50 to 60 cm. Models dedicated to small bathrooms can be a little smaller (40 cm), and in turn, large ones much larger (80 cm, 90 cm). If you want to, comfortably use the washbasin, it is good if it is 45 cm wide. In front of the washbasin, it is also worth leaving some free space about 70 cm so that brushing your teeth or performing other daily activities is simply comfortable. And one more important thing – we usually place the washbasin at a height of 75-85 cm.
The choice of a washbasin goes hand in hand with the choice of faucets. Which is worth deciding on? There are at least several options. You can reach for a stand faucet / stand mixer (i.e. faucets on a stand-alone rack), which is mounted on the rim of the washbasin or next to it, on the countertop – in that case, choose a taller body. You also have wall-mounted faucets, including concealed sink faucets. In addition, the style of the mixers (faucets) themselves varies – from very simple, minimalist to decorative, stylized. Faucets in gold, copper, or matte black look very interesting in bathrooms. They are different from standard models in chrome, so it is worth considering their choice.
On the wall above the sink must be a mirror with good, practical lighting. Which model? Any that fits the bathroom design! A good choice will be both a large mirror embedded in the wall and a smaller one in a decorative frame.
Nowadays, manufacturers offer mirrors with numerous conveniences – with integrated lighting or with a smaller, magnifying mirror. And one more, in my opinion, a quite important element of the sink zone. This is the cabinet. Specifically, a cabinet under the washbasin, which is good to have in the bathroom. It will provide you with a place to store cosmetics or other accessories. A cool and very practical option is cabinets with a ready-made system of internal organization, which will make it easier to keep order. The cabinet can be suspended (its body then looks lighter) or set traditionally on legs.
SANITARY ZONE
It remains for you to choose a toilet bowl compact. This is not a difficult task. I recommend wall-mounted or otherwise known as suspended models for any bathroom. They look light and aesthetically pleasing because their frame is hidden in the wall.
In addition, the space around the frame you can build in and thus gain a sizable cabinet for towels, cleaning products, or a dryer. However, remember to leave some space in front of the toilet (about 80×60 cm). And if you are planning a bidet in the bathroom, then it is worth installing it next to the compact. This is a convenient and practical solution.
