Having lunch, dinner or breakfast together is always a pleasant time with family or friends. Such moments should be celebrated. The best – in a beautifully decorated dining room. So what to keep in mind when planning a dining room? Here are some practical tips.
Do we need a dining room in our home? Of course, we do! In every interior it is worth, and even necessary to set aside space for a dining room. After all, it is the most important room in our homes and apartments. Even if we do not always realize it. After all, the table, which is the center of the dining room, is not only a place for celebrating meals together, but also for conversations, exchanging experiences, laughing, and playing. We have time to pause for a moment or simply spend a moment together, not just “to celebrate”. This daily integration in this day and age is extremely necessary and needs to be properly taken care of. Do not forget about it when planning your living space.
NATURE, GREENERY, AND A TOUCH OF LUXURY
You can decorate your dining room in many different ways. Only your imagination is the limit here. The arrangement can be cozy, modern, retro, vintage, or classic. You can mix, combine and juxtapose different styles. However, remember that the dining room space should be conducive to your well-being so that after a hard day’s work it will allow you to regenerate your tired senses with a tasty dinner, lunch, or aromatic coffee. I assure you that this will be helped by nature and greenery, which will bring the best of everything inside.
It will improve the mood, provide tranquility and change relationships for the better. And at the same time, a natural space full of greenery looks beautiful, fashionable and will never get boring. I encourage you to design not only the dining room but the entire interior in this spirit.
Invite a touch of luxury to the dining room, too. After all, the most important place in the house requires a dignified setting. Make sure that every detail, even the smallest, pleases the eye. Choose high-quality materials for the walls and floor. It can be cozy wood, elegant, yet somewhat cold in perception stone or wallpaper with a tasteful pattern. Opt for timeless colors – reliable white and black, gold and silver finishes, and beautifully shiny glass surfaces. Also reach for products that are distinguished by good, reliable design. Remember the details. Flower pots, candle holders, or a vase will add an exclusive expression to any dining room.
DINING ROOM IN AN OPEN INTERIOR
My long experience shows that nowadays very rarely, we plan the dining room in a separate, closed room. In most houses and apartments it is combined with the living room and kitchen. Remember that a common, open living area is a good and practical solution for an interior of any size. If conditions allow you, knock down the walls and connect two or even three smaller rooms. You certainly won’t regret it! An open space seems larger, more spacious, lighter, and brighter. It also gives you much more freedom and possibilities in its design. The advantages of a dining room connected to the kitchen and living room will also be appreciated by people who like to spend time together with family and friends. Someone can cook, someone else can set the table, and someone else can relax on the couch. The lack of walls is a huge advantage, as you can see!
Now you are probably wondering where in this open interior, the best place to plan the dining room. So I suggest – between the kitchen and the living room. Why? Because in such a layout, it will provide a symbolic boundary between the leisure space and the so-called working space. This is also a good and very sensible division of the interior into three distinct functions. However, I know that not always and everywhere such a solution is possible. Sometimes the layout of the rooms does not allow it, and sometimes the size of the interior. What then? You can plan the dining room closer to the kitchen or closer to the living room. In my opinion, this is also a great and convenient solution. However, remember to check which variant will be the most advantageous for your interior. This is important! After all, you do not want to move the chairs set at the dining room table several times a day, going from the kitchen to the living room or from the living room to the kitchen. This is not a pleasure.
The dining room arrangement, as I mentioned at the beginning, must match both the living room and the kitchen. There are no exceptions here. I recommend choosing the same style, the same or similar finishing materials, colors, patterns, and textures, even if you decide to use them in the interior by creating the effect of contrast. They should complement each other beautifully and create a successful but unique composition.
TABLE AND CHAIRS, SO IT’S TIME FOR FURNITURE
About the fact that the table and chairs are the most important pieces of furniture in the dining room, I probably do not need to convince anyone today. What to follow when choosing them? First of all, the size of the room and its layout. A large table will not look good in a small dining room, but a small table in a spacious dining room will look just as bad. You must also consider the needs of your family. Think about how many people will use the dining room daily, and how many will use it “on holidays.” Thanks to that, you choose a table that perfectly suits the interior, but also the needs of the whole family. If you already know what size of the table will be best for your dining room, it’s time to decide on its aesthetics.
The choice you have is quite large. In a large, spacious dining room you can set a table of any shape (oval, rectangular, round), made of any material (wood, glass), and bundled with any chairs, even if upholstered with a pleasant velour in black. If you are not limited by square footage then I advise you to look for something striking, and original, that is, a table that will surprise you with an original design at its best. We still like to choose wooden tables for the dining room. This is not surprising, as they look fantastic and are products for years that age beautifully. However, it is worth taking a closer look at less traditional models and choosing a table not on four legs, but on one and with a finesse shape. It will certainly be much more interesting. Glass tables with silver, chrome legs or with a marble top and gold legs look equally attractive in the interior.
And what about owners of small dining rooms? The choice will be a little smaller, but here too, no doubt, the options are quite numerous. In a small dining room, it is worth considering a round table (you can fit more chairs at it) or a square table. A rectangular one will work a little less well. Also remember that in any dining room, a folding table will be a great solution, which will not take up valuable space daily. It will certainly come in handy on many different occasions.
The table needs to be matched with chairs. Which ones to decide on? You can buy chairs from the same collection as the table, so you can be sure that everything matches perfectly. This solution I recommend especially to people who do not feel an aesthetic sense. Another option is to choose chairs from a completely different collection than the table, but also kept in a different style or made of a different material. This is a more daring option, but I assure you that such a risk will certainly pay off. The effect can be phenomenal.
LIGHTING DOT OVER THE I
You already have a table and chairs – it’s time for lighting, without which no arrangement is quite finished. Remember. The lamp over the table has two functions in the dining room. The first – is practical. It should provide you with enough light on and around the table. The second – decorative.
It is nice if the lamp becomes a beautiful decoration of the dining room, which will give it character. You can bet on decorative gold in a stylish setting, black in an elegant way, silver in a modern look. You can also hang not one, but three lamps over the table. If the table is large then a harmonized light trio will work perfectly over it. Also, always look for a model that will fit into the whole interior design, especially if the dining room is located in a common living space.
